Work + Play + Exotic Chinese Snacks = Another Blessed Day!

Another incredible day in China! After our American breakfast (we are growing accustomed to peanut butter toast for breakfast), we spent some time with one of the staff doctors.  She gave us a tour of the medical clinic and gave us a special project to work on (more details on that later in this post!).  When our tour of the clinic was complete, Barbara and Caryn went to observe the primary class at the school (where the students were  learning basic English).  They were learning about the "un" blend/sound, which was appropriate since they had FUN!  The other 4 of us spent some time with the precious children of Samaritan House.  Samaritan House is  located above the clinic, so it is home for the children that have the most pressing medical needs.  We were blessed to interact with these special children!

After our respective visits at Samaritan House and the school, we divided up to tackle 2 special projects.  Alex and Barbara took on the daunting task of organizing the House of Love attic in a search for long underwear, thermal clothes, long pants, and winter shoes.  We probably should take a picture of the attic for a later post just so you can see what an overwhelming assignment this is!  Jen, Jess, Caryn, and Lynda remained behind to complete a special task for the clinic.  They have growth records on all the children, but the height, weight, and head circumferences have never been plotted on official growth charts.  We are proud to say that we completed plotting the growth charts for all the children.  I wish I could say the attic expedition was completed so quickly.  However, all 6 of us will tackle that project together tomorrow.

After the children awoke from their naps, it was time for us to go play again.  Armed with bubbles, musical instruments, and Fruit Loops, we made the rounds and brought lots of smiles and giggles to those sweet faces!  When the children went in for dinner, we walked to a nearby market where we bought lots of different Chinese snacks, cookies, etc.  We enjoyed sampling the different items on our walk back to the inn.

And then....dinner!  We went to a nearby restaurant (Bai Wei Yuan) where we had a wide variety of different dishes.  All of it was wonderful, but we especially enjoyed the "interactive" dessert.  It was apples which were served hot and were coated with a sugary glaze.  They were served with a pot of cold water.  We had to remove apples with our chopsticks and quickly dip them in the water so the glaze would crystallize.  This is not as easy as it sounds!  After an enjoyable dinner, we returned to the inn where we again shared some personal testimonies and discussed what the Lord is teaching us and showing us here.

We have another special prayer request - please keep Timothy (in the Zachary House) in your prayers this week!

I am sorry to say that once again we are having some technical difficulties, so no pictures tonight!  We will try to get this resolved tomorrow so we can post some pics soon!
